Metric and Imperial Units
Metric measurements are based primarily on powers of ten and include units such as meters, kilograms, and liters.
US customary and imperial-style measurements commonly use units such as feet, miles, pounds, ounces, and gallons.
Because the systems use different base units, conversion factors are needed when moving between them.
Common Conversion Factors
| Conversion | Equivalent |
|---|---|
| 1 meter | 3.28084 feet |
| 1 kilometer | 0.621371 miles |
| 1 inch | 2.54 centimeters |

Temperature Conversion
°F = (°C × 9 ÷ 5) + 32
°C = (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9
K = °C + 273.15
MB vs. MiB: Decimal and Binary Storage
Digital storage can use decimal or binary units. A megabyte (MB) is based on powers of 1,000, while a mebibyte (MiB) is based on powers of 1,024.
That means 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes, while 1 MiB = 1,048,576 bytes. The difference becomes more noticeable as file and drive sizes increase.
